Charities supported by Wittfest

Wittfest is funded entirely up-front by sponsorship and pre-festival raffles and events. We aim to support and encourage local performers, as the standard of the best musicianship in South Oxfordshire is truly stunning.

Last year we supported Age Concern: Singing For Health & Fun and Pets as Therapy. We presented them each with a cheque for £1,167.

In 2010 we are supporting two charities: The Oxfordshire Befriending Network and Riding For The Disabled Association, Abingdon Group.

The Oxfordshire Befriending Network aims to improve quality of life for people with terminal or life threatening illnesses. They provide trained volunteers to offer practical and emotional support in the home or hospice.

The Abingdon group of Riding For The Disabled started in 1975 and has 100 riders, drivers and vaulters, 130 voluntary helpers and 12 ponies/ horses, who live at a purpose built centre just outside Southmoor. Riders come as individuals or from a special school in Abingdon to ride once a week, either in the indoor or outdoor arena, or out in the fields.

During the year they also go on picnic rides, to competitions have an annual fun day for younger children, and take out ponies onto the Ridgeway.

Whether riding, driving or vaulting, the emphasis is on fun, and the Abingdon Centre is a place of great achievement, where new friendships are made, confidence gained and medical conditions improved

In previous years the charities Wittfest has supported include:

Lucy presenting a cheque for £1,150 to Alzheimer's Society
Lucy presenting a cheque ofr £1,150 to Leonard Cheshire
Sally presenting a cheque for £1000 to Cruse Bereavement Lucy presenting a cheque for £800 to St John Ambulance
Sue presenting a cheque for £1000 to Rosie's Rainbow
