Some people come to festivals to listen and head straight for the marquee.
But if you like to take a more active part in providing the music, then head
for the Family Room at the front of the pub where the Sessions will be
taking place. We have a tradition at Wittfest of "Themed Sessions", so
you can indulge in your favourite brand of music along with other enthusiasts,
but there will also be time available for Unthemed Sessions where "anything goes".

Naturally, listeners are very welcome too - you don't have to be a performer to
come along!
12.00
Folk with Lucy
For us at the Plough, "folk is what folk do", so we welcome
anything from Traditional to Contemporary, Sixties to
Self-Penned.
SATURDAY 25th
What’s On at Wittfest 2011
FRIDAY 24TH JUNE
12.30 Folk
Plus Shackleton
13.00 Sound
of the 60's
with Nick
A new session this year! We love Sixties music at
The Plough, so come along to hear - and sing along
with! - some of your all-time favourites
14.00 Ballads
old and new
with John
Folk ballads are sung narrative, poems that tell stories.
Ballad's emphasize strong rhythms, repetition of key
phrases, and rhymes. If you hear a traditional ballad,
you will know that you are hearing a voice reciting to
a live audience. This session gives you time and space
to perform these wonderful pieces.
15.30 Age
Concern Singing
with Rachel
Two years ago, this was one of the charity organisations
supported by Wittfest. They turned up in vast numbers
and full of enthusiasm and sat out in the sunshine in the
front garden of The Plough. They got us (and several
passers-by too!) all singing our hearts out. Since then they
have become part of the festival and we are delighted to
welcome them back once again this year. Come and sing
with them at this session.
Rest of
Saturday
After Age Concern's spot (at an undetermined time)
the Family Room is available for unthemed Sessions
to continue through the evening.
SUNDAY 26th
11.00 Sunday
songs with John
This session gives everyone the chance to sing the songs
that deserve to be sung on a Sunday morning. Hymns,
Gospel, Sacred Heart and Spirituals. These sacred
chants and songs are the basis of much of the music we
hear today. Perform this great uplifting music or just
come along and enjoy.
If you've got any songs about Ernest Shackleton or on
a polar theme, this is the chance to sing them!
12.00 Tunes
with Geoff and
Linda
Bring out your guitars, fiddles, banjos, whistles, shaky eggs
spoons or anything else, and come and play some great
tunes with talented local musicians Linda (cello) and
Geoff (mandolin and guitar), who will be performing later
on in the marquee.
13.00 Sea-Green
Singers
The Sea-Green Singers are a community singing group based
in Oxford. The group was formed after a class arranged by
the Workers' Education Association (WEA) and it's been going
for about 10 years. We sing at events supporting peace and
social justice around Oxfordshire. The workshop will focus on
simple songs and/or rounds from our repertoire based on 4-part
harmonies.
14.00 Singing
Rounds with
Sue
This sessions was a big success last year. It is amazing how
good it can sound when you get together and sing the simplest
of rounds.
There are acoustic sessions in the garden area which has numerous other attractions
- there are some slots open here so if you are interested please contact us at
buskers@wittfest.org.uk.
